Frequently Asked Questions

Where should i start my Pilates Journey?

We believe that Pilates yields the best results if practiced in its entirety, as it was designed by Joseph Pilates. This means utilising all studio apparatus (not just the Reformer!). Pilates was designed as a complete system, with each piece of apparatus playing a specific role in developing strength, control and alignment.

Do you offer GROUP reformer classes?

No – and here’s why.
Group Reformer classes may be popular, but they’re primarily a fitness trend—not Pilates. Performing fast-paced, choreographed routines on a Reformer might offer a great workout, but it moves away from the core principles of Pilates: precision, control and most importantly, your individual needs & goals.

At our studio, we use the full range of Pilates equipment—including the Reformer—in a personalised, mindful way. It’s about you and what you need, not the choreography.

Where should i start?

If you’re new to The Pilates Studio and you wish to use the full complement of apparatus in the Pilates Studio and ultimately attend our Total Studio Classes, you will need to sign up to our Introduction to the Pilates Studio 8 week programme (as a minimum). This is an opportunity to work -out on the Studio apparatus and for us to clearly set your goals. At the end of this programme (which may include some homework!), you should feel confident in your Basic Reformer / Mat set-up and order on the Reformer & Mat; know some basic exercises on other pieces of equipment and be ready to work semi-independently. The decision to allow access to a TSC is at the discretion of your teacher. This keeps our classes safe and allows us to teach you with greater depth.

I’ve been doing Pilates for years, do I still need an introduction to The Pilates Studio?

If you are familiar with the classical order of Pilates exercises on the Reformer and / or mat, it may be possible to head straight for a monthly subscription or class pack sessions.

What type of session is best for me?

Ultimately, The Pilates Studio is best utilised in its entirety. The full complement of apparatus allows us to address your own individual needs. Working with the springs will help to balance your workout and lead to faster results.

That said, the matwork and GEC classes provide a flexible and cost-effective way to experience the power of Pilates.

Our classes…

Private / Semi private?

An hour a week (or maybe 2) just for you! Your workout, your focus, your goals. Share your session with a relative / friend and share the cost.

If you intend to join TSC you should start with Private / Semi Private session, until the point at which you can remember the names and set-up of exercises within the basic order. At this point, you may opt to continue with private /semi private sessions (lots of people do because they like the personal attention) or move to a GEC or TSC.

What is a Total Studio Class(TSC)?

Exactly what it says on the tin! here, you are utilising the full complement of the Pilates Studio, including Reformer, Cadillac/Tower, Mat, barrels, chairs, pedi-pole as well as smaller studio pieces such as the foot corrector, magic circles, weighted bars, & towels. Your session is shared with up to 3 other people but you are not necessarily working on the same things so an ability to work semi-independently is essential.

What is a Group Equipment Class (GEC)?

Our Group Equipment Classes (GEC) are small, choreographed sessions for up to five people, using a combination of the Tower, Mat, Spine Corrector, and small props such as the magic circle, weights, towel, and weighted bar. These classes are designed to build strength, flexibility, and control in a dynamic and supportive setting. While no prior experience is required, we highly recommend a 1:1 session before your first class, especially if you have any health concerns or injuries. This ensures you understand the equipment and can move safely and effectively during the group sessions.

How Can I Pay?

Subscription, Class Pack or PayGo? Which is best for me?

The subscriptions are based on equal payments made every 4 weeks throughout the year. There are 42 teaching weeks in the year (studio closure dates below) allowing 4 weeks of your own personal holiday/ sickness within each subscription, so if you are a regular attendee at the studio, this rate is the most cost-effective way to pay.

Class packs can be purchased in bundles of 4/10. These packs have expiry dates and must be used within the timeframe but they allow more flexibility in attendance.

PayGo rates are reserved for infrequent visits to the studio, where you do not have a regular slot.

How can I pay for a mat class?

All studio mat based classes are PAYGO with no spaces reserved. Community mat classes in Hemyock are payable per month via subscription with the exception of our seated classes which are drop-in only.

I can’t make my session this week. What should I do?

If you are paying a rolling subscription for Private / TSC / GEC sessions, you will need to commit to 42 sessions within a 52 week period (within the studio opening dates).

If you are paying for class packs, you may take holiday within your pack as long as you do not exceed the expiry date. Alternatively you may also re-schedule missed sessions to alternative days (subject to availability). Breaks between class packs is not permitted and your regular slot cannot be guaranteed should you decide to take a break between packs.

Cancellation is strictly 24 hours. Cancellations made within the 24 hour notice period are fully charged.

You may attend another mat class to make up for missed sessions. No refunds or exchanges are permitted.

What happens if my semi-private partner / class mates are on holiday / sick?

In the event that your semi-private partner is away / sick all reasonable attempts will be made to pair you with another client to make up your session (this may not be within the same week) Your session can also be upgraded to a private session should you wish.

In TSC & GEC, the session will go ahead as long as there are at least 2 attendees. Should you find yourself the only attendee in the class, all reasonable attempts will be made to find an alternative class for you that week. Alternatively you can upgrade to a private session.

I do not wish to pay monthly or buy a class pack, can I still come to The Pilates Studio?

Consistency is key when it comes to Pilates and the outcomes will always be much improved, the more frequently you practise. However, we recognise that often people travel for work and cannot commit to memberships and in this instance we offer PAYGO options. Please note that subscribers and class pack students have priority booking.

There are no PAYGO options for mat classes with the exception of the seated class.
